ਪੰਜਾਬ (Punjab)
The word "Punjab" (Punj + aab) is a persian word where "Punj" means number 5 and "aab" means Waters. So the word "Punjab" literally means "5 waters", it refers to the five major tributaries of the Indus River.
The 5 rivers are:
1. Jhelam
2. Chenab
3. Ravi
4. Beas
5. Satluj

Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ) Language
Punjabi language is Spoken by over 120 Million speakers Worldwide in more than 150 countries.
It is mostly spoken in Punjab region of Pakistan and India.
The Punjab region in India is also known as Chad-da Punjab or East Punjab and the Punjab region of Pakistan is known as Lehnda Punjabi or the West Punjab.
"Chad-da" literally means "To Rise" and "Lehnda" means "To set".
Punjabi is the 3rd most spoken language in Canada and 4th in UK.

Scripts of Punjabi Language
Punjabi Language has two scripts:
Gurmukhi - ਪੰਜਾਬੀ
Shahmukhi - شاہ مکھی
Punjabi is one of the few languages written in more than one script.
Gurmukhi (ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ - ਪੈਂਤੀ ਅੱਖਰੀ - 35 Akhri )
Word Gurmukhi (ਗੁਰ + ਮੁਖੀ - Gur + mukhi) means "From the Mouth of the Guru"
Gurmukhi script is derived from Lahnda script and standardized by Guru Angad Dev ji (the second Guru of Sikh religion) in the 16th century.
